However, Sony PR reps state that the PSP is still on target to be released in Japan late this year and in March 2005 in the US.

HomeLAN chats with Peter Tamte of Destineer as he talks about their upcoming plans to revamp the classic Close Combat military game franchise, including the upcoming tactical shooter First to Flight. Here is a snip:

HomeLAN - The games are also being developed with the assistance of the US Marine Corps. How are the military branch making their influence known in the game?

Peter Tamte - The Marine Corps is integrally involved in all aspects of development because the Marines will actually be using both games as training simulations. There have already been about 30-40 Marines integrally involved -- from Privates to Colonels. These Marines, who were getting shot at in Afghanistan and Iraq just a few weeks before helping us make the Close Combat games, have contributed exceptional expertise to the products in everything from Marine Corps procedures to what it sounds like to get shot at.

HomeLAN - What weapons and items will be used in the game?

Jan Marek - Each character will have a couple of his favorite weapons. We do not plan to overwhelm the player with abundance of weapons and gadgets. Instead we focus on creating classical western weapons of massive power and extremely realistic effects. We can achieve those by using the new system FX's of ChromeEngine 2004.

Comment!

has posted up an update on the status of the 1.2 patch for the hit Ubi Soft first person shooter:

Patch 1.2 is in its final stage of production: a nasty scoreboard bug and a CDkey security issue remain to be fixed, but otherwise a huge list of improvement/fixes have been implemented and tested successfully.
Were now localizing all the readme files, and the final candidate will be tested extensively later this week to make sure it is really solid - we dont want to rush in the last few days after such a long development time.

Thanks for your patience,

Matthieu Boulard Far Cry UbiSoft Producer

Exclusives N-Gage QD Hands-On Impressions

Comment!
HomeLAN gets some hands-on impressions of the Nokia N-Gage QD, the upcoming new version of the portable gaming console that also has a phone, PDA, web browser and more. Here is a snip:

Of course, this is supposed to be a game console first and foremost and Nokia sent over a few games along with the QD for us to try out. The QD itself doesnt have any graphical improvements from the original N-Gage so any game made for the original will play on the QD as well. Its a good thing, too, since there are so few games made for the console in the first place. The Nokia published game we received was Ashen, a first person shooter from developer Torus Games. It is, however, awful, with horrible looking graphics and terrible gameplay. The other two games we got to play were from Electronic Arts, the Tiger Woods 2004 golf game and The Sims Bustin Out. Not surprisingly, both of these games are far better. The Sims game has some good graphics and controls and the Tiger Woods title was especially good looking.

Exclusives Shadow Ops: Red Mercury Xbox Review
06-29-04 00:01 PST | John [JCal] Callaham
Comment!
HomeLAN reviews the Xbox version of Shadow Ops: Red Mercury, the recent Unreal engine based military shooter from Zombie and Atari. Here is a snip:

This game is not meant as a realistic game like Full Spectrum Warrior tried (and we think failed) to do. Zombies goals were not particularly high but at least they achieved them for the most part; create a game that takes you through a number of locations worldwide, fire a lot of ordinance at your enemies and eventually..well we wont talk about the ending. There isnt a whole lot of innovation here but the presentation of the game, from the level design to the weapons models and more, is solid and entertaining. The Xbox Live multiplayer features are decent but its the single player presentation thats actually at the center of the game here.
